My “Expert Corner” in Deccan Herald – Starts today

Bangalore Home Interior expert, Newspapers

Deccan Herald has started an “Ask the Expert” section in their Friday Homes & Interiors segment where I will be answering reader queries. They possibly got inspired by the over 1600 Q&A on this blog :).

The first Q&A got published this morning – have pasted the snipping below. This gives you one more channel to write in with your questions ….and comes with the advantage of seeing your question in the “Newspaper” which is kind of nice.

Will look forward to more interaction through this new channel

Signing off for now

  1. Look forward to more articles such as this. Please address the ideal payment terms from a home owners perspective vis-à-vis engaging an interior decorator company – for example how much to comfortably pay at what stage of the project until final handover.

  2. Advance payments are standard practice in the Interiors Business. However understandably some customers are wary of the same.
One may therefore want to get to a comfort level with a designer by making a token payment and getting back the design for just the Kitchen/ Living room for the same.
The bulk advance payments for the execution in the agreed number of installments can then follow.

  3. Hi Nandita,
I am planning for a sliding wardrobe with green ecotech block board shutters. The total height I have is 9 feet. I am thinking to avoid loft and instead of 7 ft wardrobe and 2 ft loft and do the full 9 feet sliding door and keep a shelf at the top for loft. Will this work or I will have any issues? What is the max height one can go with sliding doors
    Thanks
    Vamshi

  4. The max height available in Board/ Ply is 8 feet you will hence need to join 2 boards which adds to the complication and the shutter will also be prone to bending. For a 9 foot shutter I will hence recommend using an aluminium frame.

  5. Hi Nandita,

I am looking to get a stone counter top for my breakfast table (L shaped 6×2 and 4×2). Was wondering if you firm or anyone does this end-to-end work. I don't want to buy a stone slab and then go searching for a stone layer. I looking for Quartz/Technistone. My requirement is ASAP so please do let me know

    -regards,
    Ramesh

  6. I did explore multiwood some time back but was not convinced of it's long term durability and decided to stick with ply. I however cannot claim to know for sure how the multiwood will pan out in the long run
