  1. Swarna,
    If you want the exact color scheme, finish, alignment etc. (the one in the photo you referred is duco painted hardwood) then you will need to import the kitchen that you have seen on the site.

    Something similar can however be made in India using materials locally available

  2. Hi Nandita,

    I want a kitchen in either Red & White or Red & Black high gloss on Marine Ply. My kitchen is L shaped. Dimension would be 9 ft X 6 FT X 9 FT (height). Could you please let me know if high gloss is possible on Marine ply?
    What would be the approximate cost for this kitchen?

    1) what's the material you have used for the bathroom cabinet in one of your photos?
    2) It looks like the bathroom cabinet is not mounted on the floor and yet you have put the granite slab on top of it. Does a wall mounted cabinet have enough strength to bear the load of a Granite slab ?

    I'm process of setting up my new kitchen cabinets. However I'm confused over acrylic shutters vs high gloss duco painted shutters. I thought that acrylic shutters are 2mm thick high gloss sheets that are attached to substrate. Some say they use acrylic high gloss paint. can you clarify the difference between these two

  7. Acrylic shutters have an acrylic sheet pasted on top of an MDF/ Ply base. The same finish can also be obtained with Duco & PU paint. However Duco is not recommended for the kitchen.

    Can you advise whether glass top built in hob is suitable for indian cooking like roti making on open flame and baingan bharta etc? will the glass crack? which brand of hob and chimney will perform best? I have a budget of 25K

  9. A glass hob is fine for any type of cooking, however it tends to get tiny scratches on it due to its glossy finish.
    Faber, Elica or Kaff should be fine…there are a number of festival combo offers currently running that you can use to get stuff within your budget – check these out

    i like Hi Gloss it looks nice & easy to maintain but i wanted to know is it skretch proof , durable & good for kitchen ? as i m in process of setting up furniture for our new flat…. some interior designer said like that Hi gloss easily get skretchs…..

  11. In general, Yes Hi gloss is prone to scratches. However there are multiple varieties of Hi Gloss available nowadays with varying levels of scratch resistance. For e.g. if using laminates then Merino has a hi scratch resistant MR+ range in Hi Gloss Laminates which can be used for kitchen shutters.
    Similar varieties are available in prelam MDF etc. as well

    I am a bit confused about the type of finish i should use for my kitchen cabinets.. Can you give a briefing about the various types of finishes available (laminate, membrane, hi gloss etc) and their pros and cons.. as in scratch resistance, durability, aesthetics, how they'll look over a period of time etc..

  14. Hello Nandita,
    I want to get my Kitchen woodwork done by the carpenter, as modular kitchen quotes do not fit my bill, but want same finish as that of the modern modular kitchens. I want the cabinets in Marine Ply, but for the shutters I want high gloss finish. One way to go for this is High gloss laminates, but I am more impressed seeing the acrylic sheet laminated shutters in the modular kitchen showrooms. How and where can i get these type of acrylic sheets for my kitchen cabinet doors and can my carpenter do that , or he will need special machines to apply these acrylic sheets.

  16. I would suggest that you go for new flush doors as renovating the old doors will only cost slightly less than new flush doors. The above is not valid if your current doors are in solid wood (teak, sheesham etc.) like they used to be in olden days. If they are in solid wood then you may just get them repaired & repolished and they will be as good as new.

  17. super designs n informative blog, does a tub , commode & wash basin can fit in 10*6 feet bathroom? is it possible to design or divide with door commode in one side n (rest tub shower washbasin ) in other side within this area. what could be the minimum budget to have this kind of bathroom? please dont include commode n wash basin value as its been provided by villa owner

  18. Yes you should be able to fit all 3 in a 10X6 bathroom. The exact placement is dependent on the plumbing. There is no way to estimate the budget with the information provided, also, budgets really vary based on the quality of material and the workmanship.

  19. Hi, are these acrylic sheets scratch prone? Does the gloss remain for long?
    Does the regular fevicol stick this to plywood?
    What do you recommend for edge, PVC, same acrylic sheet or teak needing with polish. Asking because when regular laminate is used in edges, leaves a black line and is sharp!
    Any idea on quality of these sheets sold by euro?

  20. Acrylic or for that matter any hi gloss material does develop scratches over time.
    There is a different grade of fevicol called probond that is needed for sticking acrylic to ply.
    You may use the same PVC sheet on the edge (laminate is however not recommended for the edge as it chips off).
    I have not used Euro's PVC sheets hence cannot comment

  21. Hi Nanditaji,
    I'm getting my kitchen renovated.
    So which one would be better between GRASS and HETTICH?
    Few of my trolleys are more than 31inch ( 34 inch long). The person from whom i'm getting trolleys done is giving me 30kg tandom box and 50kg for thali unit. Is it fine or I should ask for 50kg for all tandom boxes? Or grass will be better as its giving 40kg capacity?
    Does this weighing capacity include both box's and inside stuff weight together? How much approximately weight of inside stuff I can go to?
    Will soft close mechanism work and last longer for 30kg capacity?
    And one more, can I go for PVC carcass?
    Please guide, it will be big help.

  22. Weight capacity of the channels = the weight of the box + the weight of the things kept in it.
    You should decide on the capacity needed based on what you will store in the boxes – e.g for staples, rice, atta etc a 50KG is recommended while for the cutlery unit 30KG may be enough.

    Gras and Hettich are equal in quality, just that Gras has limited distribution and after sales network currently in Bangalore.

    For the Carcass I will recommend going in for regular BWR/ BWP ply as PVC is still to be proven as a reliable material for the same

  23. The carpenter "can" definitely apply however the question really is whether you "should" have your carpenter apply acrylic sheets on site. For Paneling requirements it is OK but for shutters I would not recommend it as you may not be able to get the finish that you expect from the investment you are making. For shutters in acrylic it is better to go for factory made shutters.
