Hi Nandita,
Please help!I have two questions:
1. I am looking at getting a TV unit made (similar to what you have posted above), the wood work in the adjoining dining area is American Walnut veneer and was done when we moved in to the apt a few years ago.
We came across a company that does woodwork and is recommending membrane finish MDF/ply, I'm not too sure if this is a good idea..will there be a very visible difference in the way it looks from the earlier veneer stuff? more importantly I'm worried it will look too plasticky/tacky…
2.The TV is to be placed on a wall panel as we didn't want to pass the wires through the wall inorder to conceal them. someone else had suggested that we use wallpaper the company we went to is trying to push textures laminate…I'm quite confused now!!
Thanks in advance,
Pooja
If you are fixing your TV on top of a hollow wall panel then you will need to make the panel in min 12mm PLY. Don't risk it on MDF or Particle Board.
That eliminates the membrane option as membrane is on top of MDF.
You can decide between Veneer, Laminate or Wallpaper on ply based on your personal choice of the look. If you are using Veneer you will need a good polisher to ensure proper finish

Hi nandita,
I have walkin closet in bedroom. The closet has 7*4,19 mm thick sliding doors. Now my question is..
Is it possible to put full size mirror on one of the door? And how to do that?
Thanks.
Saritha.
Will depend upon the weight capacity of the sliding door hardware you have used – however mostly it should be possible. Your carpenter would know how to do it.

Hi Nandita
In the pic where you have chimney on the window, don't you required some ply or something to hold chimney stable? I also have window like same. Can you please suggest? my carpenter is saying to close half of window with ply but I dont want to close window.
Thanks
You can hang a chimney from the roof with some extra support from the top

Hi Nandita,
I am impressed with your modern kitchen design. My flat has a L shape kitchen and dimension is 9*11, I want to do something similar with single color and glossy finish. Also my plan is to use blum drawers…Could you please give me a rough cost estimate, if not can you give idea by giving estimated cost for the kitchen you have posted. My plan is to do all branded or good quality (medium budget range)+ blum drawer and pull up units….i didn't take anything from builder so will need to buy tiles and countertop too.
Please reach me over email at nanditamanwani@gmail.com

Hi nanditha,
I love your blog. I want suggestion reg how to paritition living cum dining area in a single in to two separate spaces. Can i go for any book shelf ( keeping show pieces) or panel curtains or any other idea is good
It really depends on the amount of space you have – you could do it using a showcase cum bookshelf, artificial plants, bamboo or hang downs from the ceiling. There is no good single answer really

Hello madam,
What is the difference between BWR and BWP grade plywood.
Which ply is good for tv and pooja unit.
Plz suggest..
Sumanth
BWP is for boats & ships…however nowadays available for home interiors facing extreme wet conditions. BWR is what is regularly used in interiors to build Kitchens (wet areas).
For TV & Pooja MR grade (lower than BWR Grade) should be good enough.
