2000 FAQ’s on Home Interiors and Interior Design Best Practices

Home Interior Design FAQs, Interior Designers in Bangalore

Imagine a repository of 2000 Frequently Asked Questions and how to’s on interior design and home interiors….how cool would that be.

Well, surprise surprise, we crossed the 2000 Q&A milestone on THIS blog last week – look through the comments under each of the blog posts. The content in there put together is probably richer than whats there in the blog posts themselves.
So do take time to browse through and if not all then you may find most of your questions on home interiors and design answered in there. In the unlikely event that you don’t find an answer to whats pressing on your mind, then, as always, feel free to pop it across.
Keep chiming,

  1. Hi Nandita
I am based out of Gurgaon and looking for some suggestions on picking up kitchen built in hobs with brass burners. Which brand do you recommend me ?
Also what are your views on the FFD (flame failure device) feature that only a couple of brands offer ?
    Thanks for your advise 🙂

  2. You may choose between Elica, Faber or Kaff. I also recently came across hobs from Bosch however am yet to use them.
A flame failure device is good to have but not an absolute necessity, also it is available as an option (at an additional cost) on a number of hob models

  3. Hi Nandita,
Was looking for contacts who could deliver wardrobes + beds (integrated) like Milano Smart Living in Bangalore. Any help would be highly appreciated.

  4. There is a Bangalore based startup called Invisiblebed (www.invisiblebed.com) that has something like Milano. I have however not used their products in my work, hence cannot recommend one way or the other. You may want to check them out.

  5. Hi Nandita,

I have read some of your blogs…must say very informative.

I am currently getting interiors done for my apartment and do have some questions:

1.) Are PU coated laminates same as Acrylic?
2.) Can PU coated laminates be pressed onsite by carpenter?
3.) Any disadvantages of getting the laminates done by carpenter compared to factory finish?
4.) How is Alaskan white stone for kitchen platform compared to nano white? Any other better options available for pure white stone for kitchen platform?
5.) I am confused between Hi Gloss laminates, acrylic and DUCO paint for the TV unit and partition between living and dining. Which one will look best and which one will require less maintenance?
6.) How are PVC coated laminates compared to Acrylic? Can these be pressed onsite by carpenter (without factory finish/pressing)?

  6. Responses below
1.) Are PU coated laminates same as Acrylic?
NM: Never heard of PU Coated Laminates. You get ready made PU Coated shutters, not laminates.
2.) Can PU coated laminates be pressed onsite by carpenter?
NM: Again, not sure where you are getting the option for PU Coated "Laminates"
3.) Any disadvantages of getting the laminates done by carpenter compared to factory finish?
NM: Factory finish is usually better, only good carpenters can match it.
4.) How is Alaskan white stone for kitchen platform compared to nano white? Any other better options available for pure white stone for kitchen platform?
NM: Whiteness in "stone" slab is dependent on the lot and varies by vendor, there is no standard for whiteness available in stone. If you are looking for pure white then you should consider solid surfaces (Corian/ Hanex/ LG) – they have the whitest of the white available
5.) I am confused between Hi Gloss laminates, acrylic and DUCO paint for the TV unit and partition between living and dining. Which one will look best and which one will require less maintenance?
NM: Trick question really. Duco will look good but will also require higher maintenance compared to Hi Gloss Laminates or acrylic.
6.) How are PVC coated laminates compared to Acrylic? Can these be pressed onsite by carpenter (without factory finish/pressing)?
NM: If you are going for pressing the laminates onsite by a carpenter then it is best to stick to regular laminates

  7. Hello Nandita
We would like to hang a jhoola swing from the ceiling of our first floor living room. The swing has a short backrest and is 5 ft long ( seats 3 people) and 60 cm wide with handrest on both sides. It is made of wood and weighs 25 to 30 kg. There are 4 hooks on the swing…2 on each handrest.
How do we go about hanging it from the ceiling? We are confused with all these opinions that people have given. Together with the weight of the people sitting, the hooks on the ceiling should hold up around 300 kg . Could you please guide us?…There are no hooks on the ceiling. We intend a small amount of movement. The ceiling has a thickness of 15cm ( including concrete I suppose). There is nothing above the ceiling(no attic). Ours is a contemporary style home and we are considering stainless steel chains for the swing
Which company anchor bolt should we use?..Which size?….How many?…What chemical ? Where can we buy the hardware ?Any advice to safely secure it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Btw, your blog was a great help to us in doing our interiors. Grateful for your sincere selfless efforts

  8. Hi Julia,
Generic anchor bolts/ expansion screws will be fine. Use 4 of them one for each chain for safety. Get these from the local hardware shop and ask for good quality ones … since these bolts are mostly unbranded hence best to go with the input from the vendor. These would grip the concrete and will be able to take the weight, you don’t need any special adhesive.

    Thx
    Nandita
