Hi,
I am planning to get built sofa & divan from a carpenter. what wood you recommend?
Teak should be the first preference, Sheesham would be next.

What about marine plywood?
Frames are usually done in solid wood for robustness and longevity- it's like door frames – they can be done in Ply but that is not recommended.
Also do ensure that the carpenter has the skills to deliver a prpoer finish, nowadays there are good designs available in the readymade market at fairly competitive price points.

Nice designs. The cots in above pictures are nice. What is the wood used to make this cots. And could you please let us know which shops are good for movable furniture in bangalore. Thanks in advance
The cots are in Ply + veneer. For movable furniture in Bangalore you may visit Lifestyle, Home Stop, At Home, Evok, Damro, Dash Square etc. There are also a number of shops on Double road (KH Road) that you can visit.

Hi Nandita, thanks for the being so informative
I am getting the interiors for my flat, which is better? getting it done with the carpenter or any interior company. Of course the charges with the carpenter are much more lower when compared with the companies
You will ultimately get the outcome that you pay for. If you are looking for just the woodwork then a carpenter would do however when working with an interior designer you should expect more – things like designs based on your lifestyle, age, personal characteristics (for e.g. a kitchen design needs to account for the users height, the kind of cooking, whether right/ left handed etc. Similarly wardrobe shelving needs to be decided based on your clothes collection etc., using special fixtures for the elderly etc.). Lighting of the home, decor and speciality finishes also play a big part in the overall feel of the home – this is where a designer will add value
