What is the material you use for Dining table? Planning a dining table for my apartment. Looking for suggestions.
Hi Nandita, congratulations for getting featured in Homify. I have a doubt regarding acrylics. I am planning to go for acrylic sheets for my kitchen. I contacted REHAU (ttps://www.rehau.com/in-en/) and they said these sheets can be attested onsite like laminates. But they come with 0.8 thickness. I am using blockboards and greenply club plywood for my kitchen. (for drawers & doors under platform – club, for remaining areas and loft – blockboard)
My carpenter is saying, if I go with 0.8mm thickness acrylic, the unevenness on the plywood or blockboard will be visible and overall look will be bad. Is he correct? Are these 0.8 mm acrylics are good only MDF where the surface is more smoother and uniform? If acrylics are not the go, what other options you suggest?
The carpenter has to remove any waviness in the board and apply a uniform coat of Fevicol while sticking the acrylic sheet, else the waviness will be visible. You hence will need a carpenter who has a good clean hand.
The other option is to stick a 2/3mm MDF sheet on a 16mm board and apply the acrylic sheet on top of that.

It is advisable to purchase the dining table from the market than make it on site as both the finish and the costs are better.
The dining table above is from Damro.

We are making our wardrobes with greenply 710 grade plywood. But wanted to know which is better for 7 feet hinged shutters(non sliding) – plywood or block boards?
Blockboard is better than ply for 5 feet and above shutters as it has better resistance against warp

Hi, really liked your blog. It is really helpful. I have one query. I am planning for pure white glossy laminate for wardrobe as I like white. But would it become cleaning nightmare in Indian condition? Is glossy finish recommended or is it scratch prone over long run?
For Wardrobes glossy is fine. You may also explore MR+ Tough gloss (this is a Merino brand and other brands also have something equivalent) that has higher resistance to scratches.

Tiles is the best option

Hi Nandita,
Which material shall i go for cot and cot head board (laminate or veneer) , my carpenter is telling to use veneer.
You may use either laminate or veneer for the headboard Barkha. If you are planning a plain design then laminate would do well and will also work out cheaper however if the design has any grooves and visible edges then veneer would give a better finish

Hi Nandita,
Thanks for the advise. It would help me. Also tell me which finishing layer I should go for Tv unit, bar counter and partition between living and dinning area. My carpenter suggested deco paint(tv unit and bar counter), veneer (partition).
Duco/ Veneer are fine Barkha. DO note that these need higher overall maintenance compared to Laminate, however they also give a better look
